Can Indiana residents buy cannabis in Ohio?
Yes. Ohio law lets a licensed dispensary sell adult-use cannabis to anyone who presents a current, valid, government-issued ID showing they are 21 or older, and the statute includes no residency requirement. An Indiana driver’s license works at the counter the same way an Ohio license does.
The rule is in Ohio Revised Code 3796.20. Ohio’s adult-use law has lived in Chapter 3796 since March 20, 2026, when Senate Bill 56 moved it there from the old Chapter 3780.
The same section caps what one customer can buy in a day at the amount an adult may legally possess. Ohio Revised Code 3796.221 sets that at 2.5 ounces of plant material and 15 grams of extract, for Ohio and out-of-state shoppers alike.
Can I take cannabis bought in Ohio back to Indiana?
No. The Ohio Division of Cannabis Control states that federal and state law prohibit traveling across state lines with cannabis. Indiana has no legal medical or adult-use program, and possessing marijuana there is an offense under Indiana Code 35-48-4-11, no matter where it was bought.
The division says it plainly in its Ohio cannabis FAQ. A legal sale on the Ohio side does not travel with the product.
Ohio also limits where cannabis can be used: smoking and vaping are allowed only on private residential or agricultural property. Plan for that before you shop, and never drive impaired.
Two interstates carry the Indiana line to Colerain Township
I-74 crosses the state line at Harrison and West Harrison, and I-275 loops through Dearborn County past Lawrenceburg and Greendale. The two highways run together briefly in western Hamilton County. From there, I-275 leads to exit 33 at Colerain Avenue, near the new store, without a drive through downtown Cincinnati.
