Indiana has no legal medical or adult-use marijuana program, and possessing marijuana there is an offense under Indiana Code 35-48-4-11. Ohio allows adult-use sales to anyone 21 or older with a current, valid, government-issued ID, including an Indiana driver’s license, but only inside Ohio.
The Garden Colerain Township, scheduled to open in mid-October 2026 near I-275 exit 33, is the Garden Dispensary store nearest the I-74 state line crossing at Harrison, about 12 miles away in a straight line. Does Indiana have any legal cannabis program?
No. Indiana has no legal medical or adult-use marijuana program, and possessing marijuana is an offense under Indiana Code 35-48-4-11. Indiana does regulate low-THC hemp extract separately under its own rules, but that category has nothing to do with marijuana sold at an Ohio dispensary.
So for an Indiana adult, the legal question is not what Indiana allows, it is what Ohio allows once you are standing in Ohio, and what happens when you leave.
Can Indiana residents buy at The Garden Dispensary?
Yes. Ohio law lets a licensed dispensary sell adult-use cannabis to anyone who presents a current, valid, government-issued ID showing they are 21 or older, with no residency requirement. An Indiana driver’s license or state ID card works at The Garden the same way an Ohio license does.
The rule is Ohio Revised Code 3796.20. Since March 20, 2026, Ohio’s adult-use law lives in Chapter 3796, after Senate Bill 56 moved it from the old Chapter 3780.
The same section caps one customer’s purchases in a day at the amount an adult may legally possess, which Ohio Revised Code 3796.221 sets at 2.5 ounces of plant material and 15 grams of extract. The register tracks it for every customer, whatever state issued the ID.
What happens to a purchase once I drive back to Indiana?
It cannot legally come with you. The Ohio Division of Cannabis Control states that federal and state law prohibit traveling across state lines with cannabis, and Indiana law makes possession an offense no matter where the cannabis was bought. A legal Ohio sale stays legal only in Ohio.
The division says so in its Ohio cannabis FAQ. Ohio also restricts where cannabis can be used: smoking, combusting and vaping are allowed only on private residential or agricultural property, and driving impaired is illegal.
Plan the trip around that. Buy only what fits your plans on the Ohio side, and never drive after using.
Which Garden store fits an Indiana trip?
From the mid-October opening, The Garden Colerain Township near I-275 exit 33 is the Garden store nearest the I-74 crossing at Harrison and the towns up I-74 toward Batesville. Lawrenceburg and Greendale sit about the same distance from Colerain Township and Camp Washington, both reached from I-275 at exit 16.
Until the new store opens, Camp Washington at 2927 Colerain Ave is the nearer of the two open Garden stores for every Indiana border town, reached by I-74 east and the Hopple Street exit off I-75. It runs a drive-thru lane until 11PM daily, which the Colerain Township store will not have.

What to plan before making the trip
